Making love potions and having midnight dreams

It's official, I am a nail nerd. I recently spent a Saturday afternoon frankening nail polish. It was probably the best afternoon of my life. 

As a result, I have two new babies that have quickly become the loves of my life. 'Love Potions' and 'Midnight Dreams'.

I'm not exaggerating when I say that I nearly peed my pants a little bit as I watched the first blobs of glitter float through the clear polish. Watching 'Love Potions' come to life re-defined what love is for me, luckily my boyfriend does not read this blog. 

Here are some pics of 'Love Potions', it's yet to be swatched - partly because I just like to look at it and partly because I've had to many mani's jump the line in front of it. Pics will go up once it's swatched

How can you nail this at home? Easy. Find an old clear polish, find a shiz load of glitter and combine!

'Midnight Dreams' was a little bit different. I started out with a clear coat and a buttload of glitter but then I decided I wanted it to have a tint. I'd been using all shades of blue/turquoise glitter so I ran with a blue tint. I grabbed a few of my blue polishes that I have and dropped them in. I used a splash of a Sally Hansen HD 'Electric Blue', OPI 'Russian Navy' and a Sportsgirl blue polish. 

The only part of this process that is not fun is mixing it all together. Luckily the clear polish I used had a few steel balls in the bottom, which help agitate the polish and mix it together. I have no better advice than to shake it like a polaroid picture. Be prepared to work the bingo wings. It ain't easy!

Midnight Dreams I have swatched and it was an absolute delight! It applied easily and I wore it on it's own without a base colour underneath. The best part was that I laced it with blue love hearts and I think my heart stopped when I saw one drop out onto my nail.

Scotch tape (optional if you are worried you don't have a steady enough hand)

How?

1. Apply base coat of ChinaGlaze 'For Audrey' to half of each nail in vertical direction.

2. Apply base coat of BYS 'Light Purple' to the other half of each nail in vertical direction. Let dry completely.
3. Using dotting tool, create pink spots in ChinaGlaze 'Go Go Pink'

4. Using dotting tool, draw on cheetah print in OPI 'Black Onyx'.

Nail this look at home with:
Sportsgirl 'Iceberg'

Color Club, Art Club 'White'

ChinaGlaze 'Go Go Pink'

OPI 'La Pazitively Hot'

Nail Art Liner 'Green'

Dotting tool

How?

1. Apply base coat of Sportsgirl 'Iceberg'. Let dry completely.

2. Using Color Club's Art Club 'White', add vertical stripes to nails. Let dry completely. 

3. Using dotting tool, create flower base in ChinaGlaze 'Go Go Pink'.

4. Using dotting tool, add flower petal detail in OPI 'La Pazitively Hot'.

5. Using dotting tool, add leaf detail in Nail Art Liner 'Green'.

Nail this look at home with:

OPI 'Black Onyx

Dotting tool

How?

1. Apply base coat of ChinaGlaze 'For Audrey', except for accent nail. Let dry completely. 

2. Apply base coat of ChinaGlaze 'Go Go Pink' to accent nail. 

3. Using dotting tool and ChinaGlaze 'Go Go Pink', create pink spots on your green nails.

4. Using dotting tool and ChinaGlaze 'Re-fresh Mint', create green spots on your pink nail. 

5. Using dotting tool and OPI 'Black Onyx', draw a thin line on each side of your spots. 

6. Using dotting tool and OPI 'Black Onyx', add small dots randomly on each nail to finish off the cheetah effect.

Nail this look at home with:

OPI 'Black Onyx'

ChinaGlaze 'Blonde Bombshell'

Makeup sponge

How?

1. Apply base coat of OPI 'Black Onyx'. Let dry completely.

2. Using sponge, sponge on ChinaGlaze 'Blonde Bombshell'. Create a gradient effect by sponging more glitter along the tip and gradually fading it out down the nail.

- ChinaGlaze 'Blonde Bombshell'

- DB 'French White

How?

1. Apply base coat of OPI 'Ink'. Let dry completely. 

2. Using makeup sponge, dab on galaxy colours over the top of each other until you reach the desired effect.

3. Using dotting tool, dot on white stars and spots.

Nail this look at home with:

OPI 'Comet loves Cupid'

DB 'French White'

OPI 'Black Onyx'

ChinaGlaze 'Lemon Fizz'

Dotting tool

How?

1. Apply base coat of OPI 'Comet loves Cupid'; and DB 'French White' to accent nail. Let dry completely

2. Using dotting tool, draw on black stripes to create zebra print. Lines do not have to be perfect or straight. 

3. Using dotting tool, create spots of ChinaGlaze 'Lemon Fizz'.

4. Using dotting tool, draw an outline around your spots in OPI 'Black Onyx'.

5.Using dotting tool, add small dots of OPI 'Black Onyx' randomly to each nail to finish the cheetah effect.

Nail this look at home with:

DB 'French White'

Dotting tool

How?

1. Apply base coat of OPI 'Comet loves Cupid'; and DB 'French White' to accent nail. Let dry completely

2. Using dotting tool, draw on black stripes to create zebra print. Lines do not have to be perfect or straight.

Nail this look at home with:

OPI 'Russian Navy Matte'

How?

1. Apply OPI 'Russsian Navy Matte' to a section on each nail.

2. Apply ChinaGlaze 'Re-fresh Mint' to a section on each nail. Don't worry if your colours overlap a little bit - you can cover this with your white striping later.

3. Apply ChinaGlaze 'Nude' to a section on each nail.

4. Apply ChinaGlaze 'Go Go Pink' to the remaining section on each nail. 

5. Using Color Club's Art Club 'White' (which have long, thin application brushes) stripe on your white lines.

Nail this look at home with:

Base colour - Sally Hansen salon effects 'Nude'

Santa's hat - OPI 'Comet loves Cupid'

DB 'French White'

Misc nail art polishes
Dotting tool (can be substituted with toothpick, pencil, pen etc)
Small nail art brush

How?
1. Apply base colour to nails. Let dry completely. 

For reindeer's:

1. Using small nail art brush, paint a circle to the nail edge for reindeer head. 

2. Wash brush. 

3. Using small nail art brush starting halfway down reindeer head, paint black circle to the nail edge for reindeer nose. 

4. Using dotting tool, apply two small dots to create rosy cheeks; apply two small white dots to create the base for the eyes; apply a smaller black dot in    the middle of the white to finish off the eye detail; small white dot in right hand corner of the nose to finish nose detail; carefully draw antlers.

For Santa:

1. Using small nail art brush, paint on red detail for the hat. 

2. Using dotting tool, dot on white edge to hat, and a white dot on the tip of the hat. 

3. Using dotting tool, dot on Santa's beard; apply two small dots for rosy cheeks; apply two small dots for eyes.
